Celtic discipline in spotlight

The disciplinary record of Halifax Saturday League side Spring Hall Celtic is under scrutiny again after their second abandonment of the season at the weekend.

Their Division Three game against Denholme United Reserves on Savile Park was halted after 88 minutes with the score 1-1.

Referee Gary Porter is reported to have abandoned the match in the wake of comments aimed at him following the dismissal of a Celtic player.

Celtic were deemed responsible for the abandonment of a West Riding Trophy match earlier this season and were also in hot water twice last term - their debut season - along with their opponents.

Halifax AFL fixture secretary David Rattigan said some league officials had been at Saturday’s game but the matter would be dealt with by the West Riding County FA.

Rattigan said Elland United Reserves and West Central, who have failed to raise a team on one occasion over the last fortnight, had told the league they didn’t expect to have problems fielding teams in the future.

Their respective opponents, Halifax Athletic and Brighouse Sports, have been awarded the points.
