Clitheroe 2-1 FC Halifax Town: "We got exactly what we wanted out of it," says Wild after friendly defeat

Matty Stenson opened the scoring, but that goal was cancelled out by two second-half goals from the hosts.

"I thought it was a good run out," said Wild. "We've only had six days of training but I thought we acquitted ourselves well.

"Some youth teamers got some good experience, it was a chance to look at some trialists.

"All in all it went well.

"OK the result depicts otherwise but as a contest we've got out of it what we wanted, we've had a good run around, each team, for 45 minutes."

Hosts Clitheroe, managed by former Halifax midfielder David Lynch, were playing their final pre-season game before their campaign begins on Saturday.

"They've spent big and they've got some really good players for this level," said Wild.

"We wanted a good test, they start their FA Cup campaign on Saturday and can be very pleased with their outing tonight.

"Result aside I thought it was a worthwhile exercise and we got exactly what we wanted out of it."

When asked if his side had shown glimpses of what can be expected from their style of play this season, Wild said: "There were some insights into it tonight. There were two or three things that went our way and two or three things we want to be better at.

"Maybe the team that played second-half needs to shorten their game up and move the ball with more quality, and the first-half team moved the ball well and probably should have had two or three more.

"But I don't read anything into it after six days. We did well and I was really happy with what we got out of it.

"I saw some partnerships, I saw some good play, I saw some promising stuff, and we'll be back in Thursday morning ready to go again."
