"I thought they (Altrincham) played really well, I thought they gave us a lot of problems, problems we haven't really come across this year as well," Wild said.

"But when we were on top we didn't game manage well, and kill the game, slow the game, raise the momentum when we needed to, slow the momentum down when we needed to, and we gave them a chance and we made it a contest all the way to the end, which is frustrating.

"We've had eight games this month so we're done, we're tired.

"But character's key and the boys are brimming with character, and they saw the game out, which pleases me no end."

On his team's performance, Wild said: "When we were good, we were very good. When we weren't we just didn't take care of the football or deal with the football well enough in patches.

"But they deserve immense credit for the problems they gave us today. You can see why they're doing well and I think they'll have a decent season.

"Parky's a good manager and he knows exactly what he wants from them, and I think they caused us threats.

"We hurt them in the areas we'd highlighted we could hurt them, so they took the game plan on well.

"And the resilience to keep them out at the end really pleases me.

"Again, when we looked at recruitment in the summer, that is another massive thing we recruited, is menatlly strong characters to deal with pressure."

Chadwick now has three goals in four games for Town since joining on loan from Hull City.

"He's been a breath of fresh air," said Wild, "he's a good player, whenever he's in and around the box you think he's going to score.

"He punches above his weight and what a prospect we've got on our hands here.

"We're really pleased that Hull are trusting us with one of their young prospects."

Chadwick's loan deal expires on January 16.

"I'll now start talking to Hull and see where we're up to and see what we can do," Wild said.

"The lad's loving it, he tells me he's loving it, he's enjoying his football, the lads love him here and he loves the lads.

"Let's see what this week brings."

When asked if he thought Chadwick would make such an impact, Wild said: "I expected him to do well, but I didn't expect him to do this well.

"I said in the summer I needed to utilise the under 23 market better, and hopefully Billy is an example of that."
