Brown joined Halifax in the summer of 2015 under Neil Aspin, battling back from serious injury to play in the winning side in the 2016 FA Trophy final over Grimsby Town at Wembley.

He was then part of the side that earned promotion from the National League North under Billy Heath in 2017, and was one of Town’s most consistent performers under Jamie Fullarton and Pete Wild, under whom he signed a new two-year deal at the start of last season.

The defender’s dedication and commitment to the cause made him a fans favourite at The Shay, but he has been unable to commit to the club’s new training programme.

He joins former Town team-mates Jack Redshaw and Michael Duckworth at York.
