Brown’s departure from The Shaymen to join National League North side York City was confirmed today (Monday).

He said: “It comes time to leave this brilliant club.

“The memories are too much to mention.

“The penalty shootouts, the playoffs but best of all lifting the FA Trophy at Wembley in front of so many Halifax fans beats it all.

“These moments will live with me for the rest of my life.

“I would like to thank the chairman David Bosomworth who has always treated me fairly and with respect.

“Louisa Green who I have developed a brilliant working relationship and friendship over the years.

“Big thanks to Ben and Tony Allan the secretary and the voluntary media staff who over the years have been brilliant to work with and give so much to making sure this club is as good as it can be.

“I have worked with some great managers in Jim Harvey, Billy Heath and Jamie Fullarton. These have all played a key role in the development of this football club to where it is now.

“I just want to highlight that it was never of not being able to commit to an extra day’s training. As shown by my new club, I am more than committed to full time football and go the extra mile.

“It was more a point of principle that a solution was never suggested or discussed.

“My last and probably biggest thank you goes to the fans because in my five years plus at the club it has been a rollercoaster ride with some bad times but more importantly some of the best football memories.

“The fans have been brilliant with me since day one to my last day, I couldn’t have asked for me and my family to have been made more welcome.

“I think it’s safe to say I class myself as a Shayman for life. I have loved my time at Halifax and could easily have seen my career out there but it wasn’t to be.

“I thank you for giving me the honour of being captain of this club for so many years.

“Gutted this is the way I have to say my goodbyes but I am sure I will come across everyone again.

“Take care and thank you. Browny x”
