FC Halifax Town: Chairman praises '˜phenomenal' support in final

Just under 8,000 fans crammed into The Shay for the game, which saw Halifax win 2-1 after extra-time in a nervy game.

“I want to say a hearty thank you and congratulations to them because they’ve helped pull the team through,” he said.

“We weren’t fluent in the final, didn’t create many chances but we got there. And to see the fans’ faces was fantastic.

“The only thing I didn’t want to see was the flares, and we have to iron that sort of thing out because it doesn’t help anybody and it could hurt somebody.

“But I don’t want to be negative because the fans have been fantastic, and the Chorley fans were brilliant too.

“It was phenomenal to get 8,000.

“When they equalised, it was a good free-kick, although I didn’t think it should have been given, we were on the back-foot.

“But Jordan Sinnott whipped a great early ball in and I’m really pleased for Scott Garner because he’d said to me previously ‘I’ve never won anything, I’m desperate to win something’.

“There are some warriors in that team, a lot of experience and steel. That’s probably what helped get us through.”

Bosomworth was delighted to see the number of children at the match, and to play his part in the post-match ceremony.

He added: “To go and present the medals to the players was a privilege, and to hear the noise when the teams came out before the game. You do get a tear in your eye because you look round and think ‘this really is something’.

“We get things right and we get things wrong but we give it more than 110 per cent to try and do the job right.

“There were kids everywhere on Saturday, which was great to see because it was an ageing fan-base as part of the old club.

“But the engagement with the community is working really well now. But there’s a lot of effort that goes in behind the scenes.”
