Brown will be out for the next eight weeks after his operation on a persistent ankle injury he has carried since the tail end of last season.

The former Chester man played with the injury during the FA Trophy final win over Grimsby, but that is his only appearance for Town since late March.

Town boss Billy Heath also confirmed defender Kevin Roberts will miss Saturday’s friendly at Frickley with a calf injury.

Heath said: “He got a nick in training before the Brighouse game but was fine to play 45 minutes.

“But it flared up again and, although we don’t think it’s serious, he won’t play against Frickley.

“We want to make sure it’s not a recurring injury and that he doesn’t come back for one game then has to miss the next two.

“We want it fully cleared up. He might also miss the Sheffield United game but we’ll look at it closer to the time.”
