“Our focus has always been on the games. People may have thought that when we got safe, which was realistically five or six games ago, it was time to start looking ahead then.

“No, we’re constantly looking to plan for next season, that’s been from day one.

“That takes secondary importance to the games, but now the season’s over, it’s important our focus is now on next season.

“First and foremost, we’ll look in-house. You recruit from within initially, and you have to treat players with the respect that you ask of them, and that’s what we’ll do in the coming days.”

When asked if he would be sitting down with chairman David Bosomworth to discuss plans for next season, Fullarton said: “The communication is very good with the chairman. We meet on a weekly basis to discuss a number of things.

“That’s a constant process. But it’s just a case of defining certain elements as we move forward and then putting them into action.”

Town finished the campaign in 16th place with 55 points. but Fullarton insisted he wasn’t satisfied with that.

Asked if he would have been pleased with that outcome when he first took charge in February, Fullarton said: “No, I’m never pleased. That’s not something that’s in my DNA.

“Whilst on balance you would, but we’re here to win every game, and when we don’t, then I’m disappointed to a degree, but you have to be analytical and balanced.

“I think the response from the fans that travelled showed what their thoughts are.

“But if we can provide performances with results, that engages the fans.”
