The government have announced that grants will be made available to National League clubs “if their imminent future is at risk and they can demonstrate loans are unaffordable”.

The National League season began after clubs were given grants by the government, which ran out at the end of last year. Clubs were then unhappy to learn that the rest of the season was set to be funded by loans.
But this latest move by the government could be enough to ensure the season is played to a conclusion.

Halifax Town Football club is an absolute asset to our town and the Government must recognise this,” said the Halifax MP.

“I am pleased the Government has now reversed its decision not to offer grants to Halifax Town and other National League clubs where loans are unaffordable, and hope this will provide the certainty needed to get them through to the end of the season.

“I will be discussing the matter further with the club and will make representations to Government as necessary to secure their financial sustainability.”
