FC Halifax Town: “It’s very frustrating but it’s going to be part of the season” says Wild after another postponement

FC Halifax Town boss Pete Wild says it’s “very frustrating” that Saturday’s game at Solihull Moors has been postponed after a member of the Solihull squad tested positive for coronavirus.

The Town squad will now train on Saturday instead ahead of their game at home to Notts County on Tuesday, which was also originally postponed due to a Covid outbreak at County.

Town themselves have had a coronavirus outbreak in their squad, which deprived Wild of a handful of his first-team squad for Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat against Wealdstone.

“Looking back at the game on Tuesday night there were lots and lots of positives, and I still say that if we have 11 men, it’s a comfortable home win,” he said.

“We were really pleased with the lads’ efforts and how they’re going about their business at the moment.

“We were keen to get back at it tomorrow and put in another good performance.

“Unfortunately we’re hampered and I think it’s going to be the story of the season.

“It’s the teams that can find consistency within the inconsistency of the season.”

Wild said the disruption caused by postponements due to Covid mean plans and preparations have to be thrown out of the window.
“It’s very difficult because there’s massive amounts of planning that go into every game, massive amounts of homework and players taking on board information, players having videos and analysis to watch at home to make sure they’re fully prepared for the games,” he said.
“When they don’t go ahead, it obviously feels like two or three days wasted.
“So it’s very frustrating but it’s going to be part of the season and we just have to deal with it.”

But Wild says that those players in his squad who were absent on Tuesday night because they were self-isolating will be available for the Notts County match.

“The plus is that we’ll have a full squad to pick from for Notts County on Tuesday and it’s a few more days training for the lads who’ve had Covid to get them back to full fitness,” he said.

On forward Gevaro Nepomuceno, who is away on international duty with Curacao, Wild said: “He comes back on Tuesday morning, so we’ll decide whether he’ll be in the squad or not from there on in.”
