FC Halifax Town: King honoured to be made Shaymen skipper
King was Billy Heath’s captain at North Ferriby, where he skippered them to the FA Trophy and promotion.
But he is yet to feature for Town this season due to a back injury he sustained in training last Tuesday.

“It’s a shame I wasn’t involved on Saturday or Tuesday - it’s killing me but that’s football.
“It’s a brilliant club to be captain of and hopefully I have the success I had captaining North Ferriby.
“I’ve always liked being captain but I’ve never asked for it.

“I just kept my head down in pre-season and hoped it would be me.”
King says he will try and lead by example as captain, and enjoys a strong working relationship with the man who has made him skipper.
“I’m quite laid back,” he said. “I do like to shout on the pitch but I’m not someone who will shout and scream at people for no reason. I like to lead by example.

“I think a lot of players at this level, especially in our squad, have been about and know the game.
“It’s just a case of keeping things ticking over.
“I’m always there for Billy if he needs me to do anything.
“He knows me well and I know him well.
“We do keep our distance, we’re not like some captains and managers who are best-mates - we keep it professional but we have a good relationship.
“I know how he works and that might have been the main point of him making me captain.”

Hide AdKing is optimistic about Town’s fortunes this season, adding: “If this squad work well together we will go far.
“The squad at North Ferriby had players in it who knew the system, we worked well and had a great team spirit.
“A few players have moved from North Ferriby and joined a team that’s just been relegated from a higher league.
“We’re all on our toes to get into the team whereas at Ferriby it was a given that we would play.
“I don’t want to jinx it but we’ve got a good chance of being up there with the quality in the squad.”
