James scored seven goals in 46 league games last term and is contracted to the club for next season.

But the 24-year-old was not present at the first training session of pre-season after telling Town he would like to play in the National League.

Heath said: “Kingsley may be talking to a couple of clubs at the minute.

“Kingsley’s voiced an opinion that he wants to play in the Conference National so, at the end of the day we’ve got to respect that.”

Heath also confirmed Town’s FA Trophy winning captain Nicky Wroe has left the club after his contract expired following the win at Wembley.

Striker Jamie Jackson, who scored four goals in 38 league games for Halifax during the 2014-15 season, will be training with the club during pre-season.

Heath said: “Jamie has come in for pre-season so we can have a look at him and maybe play a few games.

“I’ve known him for a while.”
