FC Halifax Town: Salford preview

FC Halifax Town could close the gap to first place to three points or see it extended to nine when they travel to top of the table Salford on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

Salford went top after thrashing Alfreton 4-1 on Saturday and are one of only three sides still unbeaten in the National League North.

Only Fylde and Alfreton have scored more goals than them in the division while only Chorley and Kidderminster have conceded fewer.

They have won six of their first eight games, including three out of four at home.

Forward Mike Phenix is their top scorer with six goals. He scored five goals in 36 league games for Southport last season.

Jordan Hulme, who scored the winner in last season’s play-off final victory over Workington, has four goals so far this term.

Former Town midfielder Sam Walker has been an ever-present for Salford this campaign, and has set-up five goals in their first eight matches.

Experienced midfielder Richie Wellens, who started his career at manchester United and has played nearly 700 times in his professional career, is a recent addition to the Saflord squad.

The club is part-owned by former Manchester United legends Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Gary and Phil Neville and has featured in two series of the BBC One documentary “Class of 92 - Out Of Their League”, which has charted their rise from the Northern Premier League Division One North to the Conference North - the highest they have ever played in their history.

Halifax’s Matty Kosylo missed Saturday’s win at Telford with a knee injkury, but could return to action at Salford.
