FC Halifax Town: “These are challenging times and we have to find ways around it,” says Wild

FC Halifax Town boss Pete Wild says it is “highly frustrating” that Saturday’s game with Wealdstone has had to be postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak at the club.

Wild did not say who at the club, or how many people, had caught the virus, but said everyone at the club was following the Government guidelines, and that plans are in place to keep his squad fit until their next game.

“We’ve had an outbreak of Covid within the club, we don’t want to get into who or how many,” he said.

“But unfortunately it’s struck and because of the nature of our close contact at the weekend, in the dressing room and on the coach, we’ve been advised that everyone on the coach needs to self-isolate until next Saturday.

“It’s highly frustrating, having had such a good start. We wanted to get back on track after last Saturday, get back to winning ways, but now we have this enforced stop, which I think will happen to every team.

“Unfortunately I think it’ll happen to us again across the season, depending on other clubs.

“What we’re going to have to do this season is, when we’re playing, thrash out as many games as we can because we know there’ll be enforced stops along the way.

“That’s going to be the nature of the beast this season. It’ll make it difficult for any team to get any continuity or consistency, but these are challenging times and we have to find ways around it.

“I’ve had a good chat with my staff this morning around the plan of how we keep the players fit, motivated and ready for when we come back.

“We’re clear on how we’re going to do that and what we need to do to make it happen.”

Town also saw their home game with Notts County, which was scheduled for Tuesday this week, called off due to a coronavirus outbreak among the County squad.

That has been rearranged for Tuesday, November 17.

Wild said he hopes to have caught up with all the postponed games by the end of November.

“There’s nothing we can do about it, we’ll remain positive,” he added.

“On the flip side, we do have some injuries so hopefully by the time we come back we’ll have a full squad to pick from.

“It does allow the lads who’ve got knocks, bumps and injuries to get back to full fitness.”
