FC Halifax Town: Torquay will be playing to win, says ex-Town man Racchi

Halifax will stay up if they beat Macclesfield, but will be relying on Guiseley’s result against Torquay, as well as Altrincham’s at Braiintree, if they fail to win.

Racchi, who was born in Halifax, made four appearances for The Shaymen earlier this season and has since played 13 times for Torquay, helping them secure their National League status.

But despite The Gulls already being assured of safety, Racchi insists they will not approach the game with any less commitment.

He said: “Since their change of manager, Halifax’s form has been a lot better.

“I’ve played against Macclesfield three times this season and they’re a strong side but they don’t have anything to play for and could take their foot off the gas.

“Obviously we have a say playing against Guiseley but I really hope Halifax can do it.

“It’s not nice to see them in that position.

“I was disappointed to leave. I predicted back in October that they’d end up in a relegation scrap.

“My dad still goes to games when he can’t get to watch me - he’s going to Guiseley on Saturday but my uncle will be at The Shay.

“We know it will be a tough game at Guiseley.

“Our form since I’ve signed is only second to Cheltenham.

“Hopefully the manager will get the job full-time but the boys are all fighting for contracts for next season so we’ll all be playing to win.”

Racchi insists he is not bitter about his short time at The Shay, and feels he has proved the club made the wrong decision in getting rid of him.

“I don’t have any grudges with Halifax,” he said.

“I feel I’ve proved the kind of impact I could have had there with how I’ve done at Torquay.

“We were 12 points adrift when I signed and now we’re safe with a game to spare.

“I’m sure it will be a nervy afternoon.

“If it works out it could be such a fantastic season for Halifax, staying up and then maybe winning at Wembley.

“But it could so easily turn out to be one of the worst seasons in their history, going down from the Conference then losing at Wembley.”
