FC Halifax Town: Tuton deal was right for us, says Bosomworth

The striker joined the League One side on transfer deadline day and signed a two-and-a-half year contract, although the fee Town received has not been revealed.

Bosomworth argued he would not have agreed the move had he not been satisfied with the terms, but believes on balance it was the right decision to sell the forward.

“It’s a figure that we were happy with,” he said.

“The deal had to be right for the club and we’ve worked extremely hard to make sure it was.

“You have to balance these things out. For the player it’s a great opportunity for him to step up to League One and if we denied him the chance to move up you may not get the same player after those negotiations.

“That’s not saying anything bad about Shaun.

“We’ve done a deal we believe is right for the club and allows him to have a chance of making the grade.”

Bosomworth said the club would be looking at signing a replacement when the loan window re-opens next week and that the money received for Tuton would be put back into the club

“We’ve always done that. No money goes out of the club,” he said.

“Any money we get from transfers goes back into the club either into the playing budget or in the infrastructure.

“We always try to get the best value for the club.”

The Town chief said Tuton had earned his chance of a move to the Football League and is now focusing on sourcing a replacement.

He said: “He’s had a very good run. He didn’t score for a while and had a quiet start but since he’s played down the middle he’s shown his ability.

“He’s got great pace, tenacity and an eye for goal and he’s good with both feet. He’s scored some important goals for us.

“The challenge now is to find somebody who will match the contribution he made for us.”

Bosomworth admitted the timing of the transfer left the club little time to find another striker, but feels there are players already in the squad who could step up.

He added: “It’s all happened very late in the window which wasn’t ideal and hasn’t allowed us the time to sort out a replacement straight away.

“But Richard Peniket has come back from injury and played in the last two games and is getting closer to match fitness. I’m sure he will have an important role to play for us.

“Shaquille McDonald hasn’t featured too much but he is a great finisher and we’ve got Danny Hattersley back from Chester, so there are options there.”
