FC Halifax Town: We lacked quality, says Harvey

The defeat leaves The Shaymen one point above the relegation zone thanks to Adam Cunnington’s second-half goal.

Harvey, who watched the game from the stand as he was serving a one-game touchline ban, said: “I think they put a really good effort in and they worked hard.

“I don’t think anybody’s shirked anything but we just lacked a bit of quality and we gave the ball away too cheaply, too often.

“That didn’t allow us to get a head of steam and create the opportunities we would need to score.”

Harvey conceded the match was a poor spectacle, and that his side hadn’t done enough to warrant a share of the spoils.

He said: “Apart from their goal I can’t remember Sam making any saves.

“It wasn’t a very exciting game.

“We had to work hard. We didn’t have many chances either, which was disappointing.

“We didn’t work the ball well enough and keep it long enough to create those chances.

“Not an awful lot in it, just the one goal for them which was enough to win the game.”

The result was only Town’s third defeat under Harvey, who said his players’ response to the loss reflected how their expectations have risen since his appointment.

He added: “It’s frustrating because we put such a good effort in and we’re not used to losing.

“The boys are getting a bit fraught with the defeat, which is normal because they’re expecting to get something out of the games.

“That’s a good thing.”
