FC Halifax Town: We must be more consistent, insists skipper

Town captain Liam King has warned his team-mates to forget about promotion unless they string a consistent run of form together.

Halifax have now gone four games without a win having previously enjoyed a run of seven straight victories earlier in the season.

Their current run without a win has seen The Shaymen’s performances dip remarkably, although there were signs they were getting back to their best in the 3-3 draw at Eastleigh on Sunday.

King believes Town’s start to their 2-1 win over Dagenham and Redbridge on November 15 was their best spell of football of the campaign, and wants to see that replicated.

“For the first 25 minutes against Dagenham, we were unplayable, said King.

“They didn’t know what to do with us.

“We’ve got to get that kind of form on a consistent basis.

“We can’t keep blowing hot and cold.

“If we want to get out of this league, we need to be consistent.

“Consistently putting points on the board is the key to going up, that’s what I’ve learned about this league.

“We’ve probably been lucky that that form hasn’t been in three league games.

“Don’t get me wrong, we’re massively disappointed to go out of the FA Trophy, but we’re still in the FA Cup and we’re in a decent position in the league.

“The FA Cup puts more games onto the schedule and means we’re playing catch-up in the league.”

King is at a loss to explain Town’s disappointing displays against Matlock and Curzon Ashton.

“We went from top of the form to bottom of the form in one game,” he reflected.

“We just didn’t look confident at all - it was like watching a different team.

“The confidence in the team after the Curzon game looked all over the place.

“I really can’t put my finger on why, but we were second best in all three of those games.

“But I knew we would turn up on Sunday, I just had a feeling.

“It doesn’t get any worse than our performance against Matlock last Tuesday.

“But I just thought it had to turn, and now we need to maintain that form from Eastleigh.”

King feels Eastleigh hold no fears for The Shaymen ahead of Tuesday’s second round replay.

He added: “I think we’ll take a lot of confidence from Sunday’s going into the replay.

“Eastleigh are a good side, very big - they’re like a team of giants.

“But we’ve already scored three goals against them, so they are vulnerable at the back.

“But we can’t underestimate them, they’re a very good side.

“They’ve got players who have dropped down to that level to play for them and who are on a lot more money than we are.

“We’re expecting a tough game, but we’ll give it our all because we’re desperate to go through.”
