FC Halifax Town: We weren't clinical enough, says coach after FA Youth Cup win

The Shaymen went through thanks to a late own goal by Stocksbridge full-back Will Middleton before his team-mate Jack Hudson was sent-off in the last minute for a second yellow card.

“In terms of how we played we moved the ball well but we didn’t punish them in the final third and weren’t clinical enough,” said Trueman.

“There’s always a bit more pressure on us in the FA Youth Cup.

“We played out from the back and moved the ball well through the thirds.

“We created a lot of chances but weren’t clinical enough.

“Stocksbridge were a big, strong team and they caused us problems from set-pieces, although we dealt with that well.”

A crowd of 159 fans watched the game, including some of Town’s first-team squad.

“It was another good turnout in the competition,” said Trueman.

“It was good to see a lot of fans down there, plus there were quite a few first-team players there as well.

“It’s good for the lads that they showed their support.”

Town now progress into the second qualifying round in the week commencing Monday, October 3, and Trueman is hoping for another home tie.

“Another home draw would be great,” he added. “The lads know what it’s like to play in front of a good crowd now and it’s a nice big pitch at The Shay which suits our game.”
