FC Halifax Town: Welling game pivotal for survival hopes, says chairman

The two clubs clash in a relegation six-pointer at The Shay, with Halifax perched precariously just above the drop-zone.

Town are unbeaten in 11 games under manager Jim Harvey, but Bosomworth feels a win against Welling is crucial to maintaining their Conference Premier status.

He said: “We’ve done terrifically well since Jim took charge in getting ourselves out of the relegation zone.

“It’s been a fantastic run and Jim and the players deserve so much credit for turning things round.

“But make no mistake, this game on Saturday is pivotal for our hopes of staying in this league.

“We’ve got some great results against some of the bigger teams in the league but now we’re up against a club that’s just below us in the table.

“It’d be vital if we could put some more distance between us and Welling in the table and start to get a gap between us and the bottom four.

“We end the season with some very tricky looking matches so it’s crucial we get as many points in the bag between now and then.

“The points we pick up over the next few weeks could be the difference between us staying up or not.”

Bosomworth says the Town fans have a big role on Saturday.

He added: “There’s no doubt about it - it is a relegation six-pointer and I think the fans will have a massive part to play on Saturday.

“They could just give the team that extra one or two per cent they need to run that extra yard or make that extra block which could be the difference between winning and losing.

“The atmosphere at the home games over the last two or three months since we’ve been on this run has been brilliant and we need that again on Saturday with as many supporters there as possible to hopefully cheer us on to three big points.”
