The Shaymen got off to a winning start for the season with an impressive 2-0 win over Dagenham and Redbridge at The Shay on Saturday, while Stockport suffered a 1-0 defeat at Torquay.

County are fancied as one of the favourites for promotion after manager Jim Gannon assembled an impressive squad over the close season, and Wild is aware of the threat they pose.

“Tough, tough place to go, some excellent players and an excellent manager,” said the Town boss.

“We’re going to have to be at our best again, anything less than our best and we will not come up trumps, so we’ve got to back (the Dagenham win) up.

“I’ve got to look after the boys because they’ve run some kilometres on Saturday, some tough kilometres, so I’ve got to wrap them in cotton wool and make sure they’re ready for Tuesday night.”

Town were thrashed 5-1 at Stockport on Boxing Day last season.
“I’ve got it pinned on my wall at home that 5-1, so I know the importance of going to try and get a positive result there,” said Wild.

“But that was last year’s team and this is this year’s team. This year they’re going to make their own memories.

“Last year’s team made their own memories. What’s in the past is in the past and we’ve got to look forward to the future with a bright, new squad at this football club.”

Speaking about his side’s win over Dagenham on Saturday, Wild said: “That’s how we want to play, we’re going to cover a lot of grass, a lot of miles.

“We want to be aggressive, on the front foot, with and without the ball and take the game to teams.”
