The Shaymen have won once in their first seven games and are fourth-from-bottom ahead of Saturday’s trip to Solihull.

But Town’s performances have been better than their results would suggest, and they were again unlucky on Tuesday night, losing 1-0 to Wealdstone despite a battling display and red cards for Jeff King and Danny Williams.

Wild said the club would be appealing King’s dismissal, but couldn’t appeal Williams’ as it was for two bookings, so he will miss Saturday’s game, along with forwards Matty Stenson.

Stenson was due to have a scan to assess the damage to his knee which ended his debut after just 16 minutes on Tuesday.

“We tried to bolster the squad (before the Wealdstone game), but you can make a snap decision that might not be right in the long-term,” Wild said.

“We tried with two or three lads but then the clubs we tried to get them off had coronavirus as well.

“So it’s not for the want of trying, believe me, but we can’t seem to get our foot on the ladder at the moment. But we will.

“We’re not far off in any shape or form. It’s not as if I’m thinking ‘oh my god, teams are walking all over us’, they’re certainly not.

“We’re just not getting that foot on the ladder that we will soon get, because we’re doing the right things and if you’re doing the right things, we will prevail and we’ll start picking up points.”

Jamie Allen and Jack Senior are set to return to training today (Thursday) and tomorrow respectively, and could go straight into the side on Saturday.

Gevaro Nepomuceno will also miss the Solihull game as he is on international duty with Curacao.

Wild says the budget is there to bring in reinforcements after the departures of Gold Omotayo and Jacob Hanson.

“It’s not for want of trying, it’s just a case of getting the right person in and having a bit of luck to get them in.”

On defender Hanson, who joined Curzon Ashton this week after the cancellation of his contract, Wild said: “I wish him all the best. Obviously we transfer listed him in the summer, he wasn’t part of our plans, but I’m glad it’s been sorted out and he can get back to playing football.”
