FC Halifax Town: Wild hopes to bolster his depleted squad

FC Halifax Town boss Pete Wild is hoping to bolster his depleted squad in time for Saturday’s trip to Solihull Moors.

Wild was forced to put youth team players Nick Crane and Lucas Schofield on the bench, and had only 14 senior players available for Tuesday night’s 1-0 defeat to Wealdstone at The Shay.

That was due to the Covid outbreak at the club, which has seen a handful of his players have to self-isolate after developing symptoms.

“Jamie Allen and Jack Senior can come back Thursday and Friday, so they come into contention for Saturday,” Wild said.

“If I can bolster the squad, I certainly will.

“We certainly need a forward, we’ll try to get a forward in.

“I’ll have a look at it but we could do with a couple of additions if we can.”

Gevaro Nepomuceno is away on international duty with Curacao and will be back on the morning of the Notts County game next week.

“We let Gevaro go because we had enough numbers, we’d committed to him going and then other people in the squad pick up coronavirus,” Wild said.

“We can’t recall Kian Spence at Scarborough in the first 28 days, which ends on Friday, so we couldn’t call him back.

“It is what it is, we’ve got to push on, and move on.

“There’s no victim mentality here, there’s no pointing fingers that it’s everybody else’s fault.

“We’ve just got to keep going and that’s what we’ll do.”

Wild also revealed that striker Jake Hyde went off with cramp against Wealdstone.

“Everybody was probably thinking ‘why have you brought Jake Hyde off with a minute to go because you’re trying to score’ but Jake’s cramped up and can’t move his body, so we need somebody who can run around,” Wild said.

“So we throw Jay Benn on to go and run around.”

Forward Matty Stenson will be assessed after picking up a knee injury on his debut in the game.

“Poor lad. There was nobody around him, he puts his foot into the grass and twists his knee. It’s just madness, utter madness,” Wild said.

Danny Williams will miss the Solihull game through suspension after being sent-off for two bookings on Tuesday.

“The first one’s a yellow, the second one I don’t think he needs to give a yellow,” said Wild.

“It’s just neither her nor there but their lads surround him, he gets bullied and makes the second yellow decision.”
