The National League season has been suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic, giving Wild plenty of time to prepare for its resumption and to look into potential future signings.

“Of the targets we’ve identified, we’ve been picking one a day to dig deep on and find out more about them,” he said.

“We’ve been spending a week on each of our last nine opponents, studying them.

“And we’ve been reviewing what we already do - is it fit for purpose, could it be better, is our performance plan fit for purpose etc.

“It’s been a big review period for me personally - how do I run things, what can I do better, how could I run the club better etc.

“There’s ideas, there’s some stuff I think we can do better, things where we can make our working week better.

“But they’re long-term plans for next season, and I’ll look at them with Chris (Millington) over the summer and make sure they’re fit for purpose come pre-season.”

If the season resumes, Wild says he is prepared for what could be a hectic conclusion to the campaign.

“We’ve got a plan of how we’re going to do things, and what that will entail. Obviously that’s a lot of football and not a lot of training,” he said.

“We’ll need a mini pre-season when we get back and I’ve spoken to a couple of managers about a couple of training ground friendlies to make sure we’re in peak condition when the games do start again.”

On the prospect of whether he would be able to add to his squad, with the National League’s registration deadline having elapsed, Wild said: “There’s no decision on that. We have got a couple of players we did want to add to the squad but obviously the chairman’s not prepared to put anybody else on the budget at this time and I firmly understand that.

“We’ll just have to see if we can get them lads in when we restart. But I know there’s a lot of clubs in the same boat as me on that.”

The Town boss added: “It’ll be the team that gets off to the best start when they come back that get over the line.

“If you have a slow start you’re probably going to find it hard to chase those points back.

“In my opinion, it’ll all be about having a good start when we do come back.”

Looking further ahead, Wild believes the landscape of the game will change dramatically when football does resume.

“I can see a really tough time for football, tough time for players,” he said.

“Players may have to play for a lot less money than they were playing for before.

“There’ll be a massive shake-up in the summer, there’ll be players falling out with clubs because of how finances have been come the end of this season. They won’t be getting the same contracts they were getting last season.”
