FC Halifax Town: Wilson warns Telford to expect a battle

Wilson scored seven goals in 33 league games during the 2013-14 season for Town but he was loaned out to Guiseley in September 2014 after slipping down the pecking order at Halifax before joining AFC Fylde.

He scored his first goal of the season for Telford in their 1-1 draw with Nuneaton last time out.

Town go into the game after back-to-back defeats, but Wilson knows what to expect against The Shaymen.

“There’s never a good time to play Halifax,” he said.

“I’m sure they’ll bring a good following.

“I’ve warned the lads that they’re in for a game on Saturday.

“I played against North Ferriby when Billy Heath was there and they were at the right end of the table for two or three years before they went up.

“I’m sure Halifax will be very organised and direct and they’ll give us no time on the ball.

“But that’s what every game is like in the division.

“We’ve got a game plan and we’ll see how it goes.”

Wilson looks back on his time at The Shay with fondness.

“It was a great time and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute,” he reflected.

“I think I could have done a lot more there but I think I added quite a bit to the team.

“Obviously we had the likes of Lee Gregory and Dan Gardner, who were fantastic player and have proved they were more than capable of playing at a higher level.

“I wasn’t a first-team regular but I only had myself to blame at times, such as getting a couple of silly sendings-off.

“But I’ve no regrets, I had a fantastic time.”

Wilson admits Telford have made an average start, with just one win from their first seven games, but is upbeat about their prospects.

He added: “The Conference North is a great standard but it’s tough, which I think Halifax are finding out this year.

“Every week you play in front of a good crowd and every team is up for it.

“We haven’t started particularly well but we just need that killer instinct in front of goal.

“It would be fair to say mid-table would be what we’re looking for but if you can put a good run together in this league you can be in the play-offs.”
