Town boss Billy Heath has confirmed winger Josh Macdonald looks set to be sidelined for at least three weeks after suffering a recurrence of his hamstring injury.

Macdonald was working his way back from a hamstring problem, and played around an hour in a friendly with Ossett Albion last week.

He also took part in a behind-closed-doors friendly with Barnsley under 21’s on Saturday, but picked up another hamstring injury in that match.

Another recent absentee, Nathan Hotte, should be fit for Saturday’s home game with Boston after training this week, while Tom Denton’s recent heel problem has now cleared up.

Heath said: “We want to bring another player in. Obviously Jake Hibbs has gone out on loan to get some games so that when he comes back, he is in tip-top shape for the end of the season.

“But we now find ourselves a bit short on numbers because of Josh’s injury, and with us playing Saturday-Tuesday, Saturday-Tuesday.

“We’re looking to bring someone in, ideally before Saturday, but if not then at some point next week.”

Heath confirmed Daniel Nti has returned to York after his loan spell at Halifax, but said he is still an option if they want to pursue a further loan deal for him. Heath also said any other signing could be in addition to Nti, rather than instead of him.

“We can’t afford to be short on numbers at this stage of the season,” Heath added.

“We need players with experience. That doesn’t necessarily mean old players, but ones who have been there and done it before.”
