FC Halifax Town: Youth team boss Trueman is up for the cup

The Shaymen’s youngsters host Hastings United in the semi-finals of the cup on Wednesday (tomorrow) at 2pm at the Weetwood Sports Park in Leeds.

Trueman’s side won their league last season and have been in superb form this campaign too, having lost only twice all season not losing in their last 18 matches, and beat Dartford 4-0 away in the previous round of the cup.

They are currently third in the National League under 19 Alliance - Division J, level on points with first-placed Guiseley and second-placed South Shields on 38 points.

But Guiseley and South Shields have played a game less.

“I think we’ve got a better chance in the cup,” said Trueman. “I think it’ll be difficult for us to win the league.

“We’ve not got many games to go, we’ve got South Shields to play, and they have to play Guiseley, so whoever drops points, we need to keep winning to give ourselves a chance.

“But for me the cup is better to win because it’s a national competition.

“We’re looking forward to the game, and hopefully we can perform. If we do, we’ll give ourselves a good chance.

“We had a great experience in the quarter-finals when the chairman paid for us to stay overnight before we played Dartford.

“We were able to do some match preparation and have a team meeting, so it was all a good experience for the lads.”
