Neil Aspin hailed one of Town’s best performances of the season after they crushed Worcester City 5-0 at The Shay.

Four goals from Lee Gregory and one from Alex Titchiner were part of an outstanding display from The Shaymen, coming two days after Aspin and Dan Gardner were named Blue Square NBorth manager and player of the month respectively.

The Town boss praised every one of his players after the win, which lifted his team onto 50 points after 24 league games.

He said: “Worcester have got a strong team for this level but we never gave them a sniff. We really outplayed them and were much the better team so it’s one of our best performances - I can’t fault anyone today,

“Defensively, we were sound, good in midfield and we had a cutting edge up front.

“We passed the ball well, competed well, defensively we were good and made no mistakes and we were first to every ball.

“I’d like to give them all praise because it was a good team performance from back to front.

“We know the first goal is important and we got it, then the game opened up and we got in behind. We started to move the ball and create chances.

“It’s a great win because we’ve got a testing win coming up and I knew if we didn’t get the right result today it would make the week difficult.”

Aspin had special praise for Gregory, who is now Halifax’s top scorer with 19 goals after his fab four on Saturday, but had found himself on the bench in the club’s last two league matches.

Aspin added: “Lee and I had a chat on Tuesday, which is what I wanted - I wanted to know that he wasn’t happy, but when he plays like that he won’t be left on the bench.

“He was excellent, not just his goals but his all-round play, he was strong, worked hard and I’ve always said if he plays to his capabilities he’s as good as anyone in this league.

“I think Alex Titchiner needed a goal as well. He’s had a couple of games without one so if you said to me that the two forwards would get the goals then they’re the best people to get them.”
