Former FC Halifax Town boss Neil Aspin has been named as the new manager of fellow National League side Gateshead.

Aspin has been out of work since leaving Halifax earlier this season, and replaces Malcolm Crosby, who was sacked after Gateshead lost 4-1 to Halifax last weekend.

He was born in Gateshead and takes over the club in 13th place in the National League.

Aspin guided The Shaymen to three promotions during his time at The Shay, and a fifth-place finish in their first season back in the Conference.
