FC Halifax Town’s longest-serving player, Scott McManus, has left the club after his contract expired.

McManus wrote himself into Halifax folklore by scoring a stunning winner in their 2016 FA Trophy final win against Grimsby at Wembley.

He joined the club from FC United in 2011, and worked his way back from a cruciate ligament injury sustained in that Wembley win to help Town get promoted back into the National League and then stay there this season.

McManus played his final game for The Shaymen in their 0-0 draw at Maidstone, after which the fans’ favourite was given a heartfelt send-off by the travelling Halifax supporters, who had made a special banner in his honour.
