FC Halifax Town kick-off their Conference North campaign at Nuneaton Town on Saturday (3pm).
Manager Kevin Wilson guided the club to within one point and one place of the play-offs last season.
Wilson left Ilkeston Town last May after leading them to the Northern Premier Division play-off final, becoming Boro’s fifth manager in the 14 months upon his appointment.
They have had a mixed bag of pre-season results, losing twice to Coventry as well as Barwell and a Leicester City XI.
They drew with Rushall Olympic and beat Northampton, Matlock and Belper Town.
Among the former Halifax players at the club are forwards Shaquille McDonald and Joe Ironside, who were on loan at The Shay from Derby during last season and from Sheffield United during the 2013-14 campaign respectively.
Ex-Halifax midfielder Elliott Whitehouse is also on the books at Liberty Way. The former Sheffield United youngster played only three league games for The Shaymen last season before joining the Conference North side, with whom he won the players’ player of the year award.
Striker Luke Shorthouse, who netted 44 goals from 51 appearances for Midland Football League Division One side Nuneaton Griff last season.
Goalkeeper Zeus De La Paz is a former PSV Eindhoven youngster who has been capped by Holland at under 16’s and under 18’s level.
He then committed his future to Curaçao, a Dutch Caribbean island, and has played for their full international team.
Halifax have won four of their last five games at Nuneaton, and completed a double over them in the Conference Premier in the 2014-15 season, beating them 2-0 at The Shay and 2-1 at Liberty Way.
Town will be running a coach to the game, which will depart at 11.30am and will cost £12 per person and £10 for under 12’s.
