Scott McManus admits he has not enjoyed watching pre-season from the sidelines as he waits for an operation on his groin.
McManus has missed every one of Town’s five pre-season games so far with the problem he picked up towards the end of last season.
Initially it was hoped that McManus would be able to manage the injury through injections, but he has since learned that an operation is likely to be the only cure.
“I’ve had a diagnosis of osteitis pubis and there’s a ligament which has torn away from the pubic bone, so we’re just trying to figure out the best thing to do,” he said.
McManus hopes to have the operation paid for by the PFA, which he is registered with still from his time at Crewe, but it’s unclear how long that will take to process.
“Potentially I could be back in three to four weeks after the operation but I just need it operation doing.
“I can describe how frustrating it is. I’ll be here to support the lads but it’s not something I want to be doing - I want to be playing with them,” he said.
