JAMES Riley looks set to make his farewell appearance for Town in tonight’s West Riding County Cup semi-final clash with Conference North Guiseley at Nethermoor (7.45).
The Shaymen’s Evo Stik Premier neighbours Bradford Park Avenue have put seven days’ notice on the non contract central defender who is expected to make the switch to the Horsfall Stadium before the weekend.
Riley’s starting chances have been limited by the good form of skipper Mark Bower and Liam Hogan.
And tonight he is likely to play alongside the man whose arrival has almost certainly prompted his departure, Andrew Milne.
It was Milne who was preferred to Riley seven days ago against Worksop at the Shay when Aspin looked to plug the gap in defence created by the red card shown to Hogan.
“Bradford Park Avenue have put a seven day notice on him and because he is not under contract I expect him to sign for them in the next few days,” said boss Neil Aspin. “I am very disappointed to lose him.
“Although he is not a first choice centre back, I don’t think anything less of him.
“He is a great lad and I love his attitude and the way he plays the game. He always plays to his maximum.
“He wants regular football and I cannot give him that so he has to do what is in his best interests.”
As ever in the County Cup, Aspin is set to make wholesale changes for tonight’s game with Saturday’s trip to Buxton looming large on the horizon.
Phil Senior, Richard Marshall and Scott Metcalfe, who started Saturday’s 1-0 win over Ashton on the bench alongside Riley and Milne, are all set to start along with Scott Hogan.
There is also a chance that coach Lee Nogan could make a second appearance having played in the previous round at Harrogate Railway.
“People need 90 minutes and will benefit from that,” said Aspin.
“I am more concerned about that, and giving them a boost to their fitness, than anything else.”
The winners of tonight’s game will face NCE League Premier Division outfit Thackley in the final at Valley Parade on April 13 - the same night Town are at Whitby for a rearranged league game.
Town fans wishing to book on the official supporters’ bus for the game at Buxton on Saturday can do so by calling 07707 14094. Transport leaves the Shay at noon and will cost £10.
