Neil Aspin says he hopes the behind-closed-doors friendly at Middlesbrough will open a few doors between the clubs in the future.
Town will take on a Middlesbrough under 21 side at the club’s training ground tomorrow (Saturday) in their latest warm-up match.
The Town boss is hoping the fixture will help forge a link between the two sides and result in Town being able to tap in Boro’s production line of talent that has produced the likes of Stewart Downing and Adam Johnson in recent years.
He said: “We took Adam Jackson on loan from there last season and I’d like to have a link with Middlesbrough.
“I feel they’re a club that gets a lot of players through and if we could benefit from that it would be to our advantage.
“Because they get so many young players through to their first-team, they feel they’ve got a strong team and it’ll be a good test for us.
“It’s a good opportunity for us, it’ll be a lovely surface and that’s what you want in pre-season so it’s a game that will be beneficial to us.
“There’ll be changes and although it’s going to be hot again we need players to get 90 minutes under their belt.”
