FC Halifax Town chairman David Bosomworth believes Jamie Vardy’s call-up to the England squad is fully deserved.
Vardy was named in the squad for the first time for the games against the Republic of Ireland in Dublin on 7 June before a Euro 2016 qualifier in Slovenia a week later.
The striker joined Town from Stocksbridge Park Steels in May 2010 and scored 28 goals in 41 games before joining Fleetwood in August 2011.
He has just helped Leicester City to survival in the Premier League, scoring four goals in 35 games this season.
Bosomworth was delighted at the news.
He said: “I’m so chuffed for him because he really deserves it. It’s fantastic.
“Everybody at the club will be delighted for him.
“He played his heart out in every game for us.
“He’s a talented lad with great pace and a great attitude. He just wanted to play.
“I’ve still got the DVD’s of some of the goals he scored for us and he got some great ones.”
