Blyth Spartans have confirmed that striker Dan Maguire is in talks with FC Halifax Town but are unhappy with the way the possible transfer has been handled.
The 22-year-old forward scored twice in Blyth’s 4-1 win over Altrincham in this season’s FA Cup and has 65 goals in 132 games for the club, including 31 in 56 games last season.
Maguire was named Blyth Supporters’ Club Player of the Season in 2013, 2014 and 2015, won the Players’ Player of the Year in 2013 and has been the club’s leading scorer in the past two seasons.
He also played for the England C side last year and was named in last year’s EvoStik Northern Premier Division Team of the Year.
A statement on the Blyth Spartans website said: “The club can confirm that striker Dan Maguire is in talks with Vanarama Conference club FC Halifax Town.
“The club would like to go on record to express our displeasure at the way the potential move has been handled and will be making no further comment other than to confirm whether the transfer goes through or not.”
