Halifax star Crompton grabs another hat-trick to sink Thornaby
Farah Crompton netted her second hat-trick in as many games as Halifax FC Women thumped Thornaby FC 6-0 in the Women’s National League Division One North.
Aleesha Collins, Emily Burke and Marli Rhodes-Andrews were also on the scoresheet as Halifax cruised to another three points.
It didn’t take long for the scoring to begin, with Neve Renwick releasing Collins, who smashed home with her weaker left foot, giving the hosts the lead within two minutes.
Crompton then netted her first of the afternoon 20 minutes later, latching onto a Meg Shaw through ball and clinically slotting home.

It was Crompton again who netted the hosts’ third, with Renwick doing superbly to bring the ball down on her knee and flick round the corner, before Halifax’s number nine poked it into the top right corner, giving her a brace, as well as Renwick’s second assist.
Then, right on the stroke of half time, an unlikely scorer in Emily Burke wanted to get in on the action, as she rifled home from outside the area, giving Halifax a four goal lead as they headed into the half time break.
Crompton secured the match ball straight after half time, finishing a low Collins cross, before Rhodes-Andrews headed home a Macy Settle corner to round off the game at 6-0.
Halifax did have the ball in the net to make it seven, but Summer Horner was denied her first goal of the season by an incredibly tight offside call from the linesman.
As for Thornaby, despite the convincing scoreline, there were still many positives to take from their performance, as they did cause the Halifax defence problems, especially in the first half.
Their most notable moment came at 1-0, where Sophie Curle struck a beautiful shot that seemed destined for the top left corner, were it not for a superb acrobatic save from Mollie Finch in the Halifax goal.
It wasn’t a perfect day for the hosts’ however, as Finch was forced to hobble off with injury just before the half-hour mark.
Up next for both sides is the FA Cup first round, where Rob Mitchell’s side will make the long journey to Lincoln, while Thornaby host Chorley.
