Hammers finish goal fest with flourish

They came out on top 9-6 thanks to four goals in the final six minutes.

Hammers, who are up to third, got off to flying start when Terriq Pervez went on a mazy run and scored from an acute angle after 35 seconds.

Good work by Matty Waller and Pervez set up Lamin to score a quick second as Hammers played brilliant one-touch football.

It took a fine save from Gareth Gaukroger, after Lamin Janneh had gone one-on-one with him, to jolt Mount into action and Paul Fiander replied after 25 minutes.

Waller rifled a shot into the bottom corner and just before break Pervez raced clear on the left and scored a fine goal to make it 4-1.

Gaukroger was limiting the damage but Lee Mount came out with all guns blazing for the second half and Callum Meade coolly chipped the ‘keeper.

Hammers lost young defender Hasan Jamil with back injury and when Fiander and Meade made it 4-4 Lee Mount’s tails were up.

Meade completed his hat-trick on the hour to deservedly give them the lead but player manager Yasar Mohammed rallied Hammers, who drew level through Lamin.

An Ahsan Farooq penalty made it 6-5 to Hammers but Rohan Ford’s powerful shot into the bottom corner launched Hammers’ big finish.

Ozair and Waller combined for Lamin to bag his third; right back Ahsan Farooq hit and an unstoppable shot; and substitute Sameer Ahmed intercepted a poor pass to smash the ball into the back of net.

Bowling Green went second and cut inactive Carrington’s lead to six points with a 6-2 win away to last season’s runners-up Hollins Holme.

Chris Garbutt and James Chadwick were stuck in traffic so Ryan Jeffries went in goal for Hollins and 46-year-old assistant boss Steve Parker had to slot in at centre back for half an hour.

The game was fairly even for a while but Hollins, still lacking injured Lewis Cockroft, failed to take their chances and Green punished them by powering in a 3-0 interval lead.

A Steve Senior tap-in and a Rhys Dean header got Hollins back into it.

They pushed Rob Stansfield forward in the search for an equaliser but Green doubled their tally late on.

Waiters Arms closed on the leaders with a 5-2 home win over Ryburn United in the Premier Division’s other game of the day.

There was a major shock in Division One when leaders Barge lost 3-2 at home to bottom side Bradshaw, who had lost their previous five games.

Barge boss Matthew Bagshaw admitted that Bradshaw had worked very hard for their victory.

Bradshaw were more clinical in front of goal and had a clear man of the match in Wayne Camplin, who had the game of his life between the sticks.

David and Michael Woffenden got on the scoresheet for the Brighouse side.

Barge’s lead over Feathers is now a solitary point after that side beat Triangle 6-1 ad Ovenden BCFC are a close-up third after a 3-2 home win over Ryburn Valley.

Hens Face and Oddfellows registered their second wins of the season.

Face had a 3-2 success away to North Bridge while Oddfellows won 3-0 away to Royd Club, who paid the price for not taking early chances.

It was all Royd for the first 10 minutes before play opened up.

Oddfellows then had most of the possession and looked the more likely to score, taking the lead with a great strike.

The visitors doubled their advantage after 50 minutes and added a third five minutes from time.

Division Two leaders Halifax Rangers dropped their first points of the season in a 2-2 home draw with Halifax Hammers Reserves, who went second.

Hammers were a threat from start to finish and home keeper Damon Parry had to make a couple of early saves as the visitors forced the game.

Rangers struck in the 18th minute when leading scorer Sam Parker was teed up by Howard Metcalfe.

Hammers levelled with a penalty from Suhail Bashir eight minutes after the break but Rangers fortuitously regained the lead when Hammers keeper Qamar Ayub parried the ball into his own net from Grant Metcalfe’s corner.

This slip-up acted as a wake-up call for the visitors and several chances went begging before Wajid Nawaz turned sharply in the box and poked the ball home to make it 2-2.

Rangers survived a goalmouth scramble in the dying minutes whilst at the other David Oakes shot wide with the goal at his mercy.

Weavers beat Crown 3-1 in an end to end contest in Mytholmroyd.

Craig Gabbitas’ visitors created plenty of chances and Dave Phelan and Mark Holroyd were impressive at the back.

Craig Gladwin found the back of the net for the visitors and had four further golden chances whilst Ryan Collins was thwarted one on one.

The home side were the more ruthless in front of goal despite Crown keeper Howard Templeton being in fine form.

Halifax Amateurs are third, trailing Hammers on goal difference, after a 4-2 home win over lowly Ovenden Phoenix.

North Bridge Reserves, like Phoenix, are still without a point but after some heavy defeats they went down to the only goal away to St Columbas.
