Handsome win for Stump Cross

Stump Cross got their Haslem-Sheppard Halifax AFL title bid back on course with a 6-0 home win over relegated Sowerby United last night.

Tom Robinson, Dean Lawrence and Martin Bates each scored twice at Shroggs Park as Stump bounced back from a shock 3-2 defeat by Copley United at the weekend.

Stump are now nine points behind Ryburn in the Premier Division with three games in hand.

Honours were even between derby rivals Shelf United and Northowram, who drew 2-2 at Shelf Park.

All the goals came in the first half with Oliver Coates getting both for Shelf and Chris Conroy and Alex O’Keefe hitting the target for the Rams.

Four games took place in Division One and the most significant result was second-placed Mixenden United’s 2-0 win away to Ryburn United Reserves.

Third-placed Volunteer Arms crashed 8-0 away to Denholme United at Foster Park with Michael Midgley adding another three goals to his tally.

Gav Martin scored twice as Calder ‘76 Reserves upset AFC Crossleys 3-2 while bottom side Greetland Reserves suffered a 21st league defeat of the season when losing 4-2 at Elland Allstars.

Last night’s seventh and final AFL game was a 2-2 draw between Sowerby Bridge Reserves, who prop up the league, and St Columbas.
