Hanson nets first international goal as Scotland maul Cyprus in European Championships quailfier

Manchester United forward Kirsty Hanson was among the goal-scorers for Scotland Women as they thrashed hosts Cyprus 10-0 in the Women's European Championships qualifiers.

Halifax-born Hanson helped set-up two more and rifled in the Scots' fourth on the half-hour as her team inflicted the Cypriots' heaviest ever defeat.

Hanson was one of three players to be substituted at half-time by interim coach Stuart McLaren, in his first game in charge, and Scotland romped to victory thanks to further goals from Erin Cuthbert (2), Martha Thomas (2), Jane Ross (2), Caroline Weir, Lizzie Arnot and Claire Emslie.

It represented more misery for Cyprus, who went down 8-0 in Scotland last August, but despite the rout, the Scots can't reach the finals after sustaining three 1-0 defeats to Finland (twice) and Portugal, who they play in their final Group E qualifier on Tuesday.
