Farquharson has forged a lethal partnership alongside Railway hitman Nathan Cartman this season. And his strong performances have alerted top scouts from the Scottish club to view his potential ahead of a possible moves.

The powerful forward scored in Railway’s gritty 2-1 victory over Ossett Albion on Saturday which brought the club back up to sixth following the 4-2 New Year’s Day defeat at Yorkshire rivals Farsley.

St Mirren currently lie second-bottom in the Premiership and are locked in a relegation battle with Ross County and Motherwell.

Farquharson has been based at Brian Deane’s International Academy for Football and Education in Leeds for the last two years, alongside Railway teammate Adam Baker.

He missed the opening matches of the season through injury but has scored 13 goals since returning in October.

Railway boss Billy Miller said: “We will deal with it, it’s part and parcel of football.

“We would not deny any kid the opportunity to go and play higher, especially in the professional game.”

Miller also confirmed scouts from professional clubs had been to watch other talents in his squad, with one from a Championship side.

He said: “We have had a good pedigree for producing players over the last few years, like Lamin Colley, Jake Lawlor and Josh Windass.

“It’s hard but we have to market ourselves as a club that will nurture talent and let people go when they get the opportunity.”
