Late sickener for Brighouse

Brighouse Town’s FA Cup hopes are over for another season after they went down to a late Ashton United winner at Hove Edge yesterday.

Division-higher Ashton won the first qualifying round tie by 2-1.

Paul Quinn’s side were lacking six injured players but still came within seconds of a Tuesday replay.

Town, who included new signing Barrie Frankland from Leeds City at centre forward and the returning Tom Brown at full back, took the lead after the hour mark through Ryan Hall.

However, Matthew Chadwick equalised on 75 minutes and Ashley Young bagged an injury-time decider.

Brighouse were unhappy with the circumstances surrounding both the visitors’ goals but Quinn praised his players for giving their all.
