Ory's golden goals for Plummet

FC Plummet Line were crowned Halifax AFL Division Two champions in only their second season when they beat AFC Crossley's Reserves 4-1 at Illingworth Sports Club on Saturday.

Lacking top scorers Liam Calvert and Josh Hunt, they set about grinding down their hosts.

Plummet went ahead down the slope through midfielder Ory Goldthorpe who headed in a Rory Youell cross after 20 minutes.

Marginal offside calls stopped Ahmed Yehyah and Youell from adding a second.

That left Plummet vulnerable to a sucker punch, which was duly landed when Robert Kenny floated a cross cum shot over stranded Plummet keeper Matty Berry to level things up just before the break.

Plummet played some nice football up the slope and great interplay between Yehyah and Adam Knapton enabled Goldthorpe to grab his second.

Yehyah cashed in on good work by Tom Howse to make it 3-1 from close range and Youell slotted home between the keeper’s legs after a great run down the flank from sub Kris Charnock.

A fantastic close range save from Berry ensured Crossleys could find no way back.

Hat-tricks from Joe Ashington and Adam Fenton helped Sowerby Bridge Reserves win 8-1 away to Greetland Reserves in the other game in the division.

Division One champions Denholme United made it 18 wins out of 19 with a 5-1 success away to Elland Allstars.

Brighouse Sports boosted their hopes of claiming the second promotion spot with a 3-0 win away to Ivy House with George Aspinall bagging all their goals.

Ryan Seekins’ two goals were in vain for Flying Dutchman, who lost 3-2 at home to FC Ovenden at Savile Park in Division Three.
