Aspin was spoilt for choice for players during his Town tenure, and wasn’t able to find room for the likes of Lois Maynard, Steve Payne, Richard Marshall, Ryan Toulson or loanees who went on to have strong careers such as David Brooks or CJ Hamilton.
Aspin did point out though that, although he didn’t select them in the team, defender Danny Lowe and winger Adam Smith would be among his substitutes.
Here is the team he chose.

9. Lee Gregory
Was perhaps transformed more than any other player under Aspin's guidance, Gregory got better and better in his time at Halifax, scoring the winning goal in the Conference North play-off final at Brackley in 2013 before a sensational season saw him score 29 goals as captain in the fifth tier in 2013-14. Has played for Millwall, Stoke, Derby and Sheffield Wednesday since then. Photo: Charles Round

10. James Dean
Played for Aspin at Harrogate and became a Halifax legend when he followed his manager to The Shay, scoring 70 goals and helping to propel Town through the lower leagues. Went on to play for Fylde and Chorley, amongst others, but sadly died in 2021. Photo: Bruce Fitzgerald

11. Jamie Vardy
Last but not least, there had to be room for this man. Was only at Town for one full season, but what a season, scoring 25 goals and terrorising defences as Halifax earned promotion into the Conference North. Arguably Aspin's best signing of all, and went on to have an outstanding career, winning the Premier League with Leicester City and playing for England. Photo: Bruce Fitzgerald
