Queens Head’s first trophy

A three-goal blast from Craig Eastwood helped the Illingworth side beat division-lower King Cross Park 5-0.

It was a highly-successful outcome for Queens Head, who had been forced to beat Bradshaw twice in the semi-final after the West Riding County FA had ordered a replay.

Ian Pickard, who runs the side alongside his manager son Craig, said: “The club was started around eight years ago and this was our first final. It was a nice occasion to be involved in.”

King Cross Park, an even younger club, were far from disgraced in spite of the scoreline.

They posed a threat from set pieces and were denied by the woodwork on a couple of occasions.

Park starter the stronger but Queens Head soon took the lead through Anthony Fenwick, after good work from Eastwood and Jordan Peel.

Eastwood doubled the lead midway through the first half and it remained 2-0 up to the break.

Joe Bryson and Benjamin Steele stood firm in the heart of the Queens Head defence as Park looked for a route back into the game.

However, Eastwood’s second goal after 55 minutes left Queens Head sitting comfortably and the man of the match scored with a superb solo effort to complete his hat-trick.

It was left to substitute Scott Fieldhouse to get the final goal with four minutes left.

Hollins Holme clinched the middle-section title on Sunday when they beat Ryburn United 5-2 in their final game.

It took them two points ahead of long-time leaders Oddfellows and gave them a double after their Halifax FA Sunday Cup success.

in Division One, Elland Sports were unable to raise a team to face Carrington, who look likely to be awarded the points in their quest to overhaul FC Bowling Green in the title race.

Carrington play Waiters Arms at Greetland Community Centre on Tuesday while FC Barge play King Cross Sports at Brighouse Town on the same night.

Three games did take place in the Premier with Halifax Hammers and Waiters Arms drawing 3-3, Lee Mount thumping King Cross Sports 8-1 in their pursuit of third spot and Shoulder Northowram beating FC Barge 4-3.

Shoulder’s win is the most significant as it means they are likely to finish outside the bottom three.

Bowling Green and Carrington will contest the Senior Cup final at Brighouse Town on Sunday (11.0) and a close game is expected between the league’s two outstanding sides this season.

The Sunday League’s annual charity match between the referees and the management takes place the following Sunday at Natty Lane, Illingworth (11.0).

The league’s presentation takes place at Lee Mount club after the game at around 2.0.
