The Rail are currently in the relegation zone of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League following a run of just one win in ten.

Their latest defeat came on Saturday against Kendal Town to leave them in 21st place, in the drop zone on goal difference.

But Ashforth believes that the team’s performances are not matching the results. He said: “We’re playing good football. We played well on Saturday and only lost because of two wonder goals.

“We’re not a million miles away. We’ve played a lot of teams in the top half and we’ve been beating teams around us.”

This weekend sees Railway travel to New Mills, who are pointless after 18 games. But the Rail boss insists that his side will “not take them likely”.

He said: “We know we’ve got to go and get three points, but it’s not the be all and end all if we don’t. It won’t define our season. We’ve got to stay professional.”

Ashforth insisted that the atmosphere in the camp is still good despite the low position, stating that the aim was always to stay in the division, adding: “there is no negativity around the place.”
