Paul Quinn’s side were playing catch up for most of the game against Lancashire opponents who finished the day in fifth spot, having been struggling for form themselves.

Burscough took the lead at Victoria Park through Michael Monaghan after six minutes.

Tom Robinson, who played for Stump Cross last season when they were Halifax AFL champions, headed Town on terms after 58 minutes but Nicholas Ryan got what turned out to be the winner for Burscough eight minutes later.

Brighouse will hope to get back to winning ways at home to fourth-from-bottom Radcliffe Borough next Saturday.
