Telford 1-2 Halifax: Better second-half earned us the win, says Heath

Halifax boss Billy Heath said his team raised their game after half-time to seal a much-needed 2-1 win at Telford.

Nathan Hotte’s first goal for the club decided the game after a goal apiece in the first-half from Telford’s Micah Evans and Town’s Richard Peniket.

Heath said: “I thought there wasn’t a lot of football played in the first-half. We looked slightly edgy and weren’t confident on the ball, weren’t passing it as well as we wanted to.

“The first-half was pretty even, a bit broken up. But second-half we raised it and could have been two or three goals to the good, we shouldn’t have taken it to the wire, but it’s just good to get three points.”

Heath admitted Town needed Peniket’s spectacular equaliser after a disjointed opening to the game.

“He’s got that in his locker has Richard. It was a great individual goal,” Heath said. “He came off from the left channel, cut in and it’s a great finish.

“That gave us the lift we needed, and I thought we were worth the win after the second-half. Hopefully we’ll take some confidence from this because we looked a bit short of confidence.”

There was some confusion over who had scored Town’s second goal, but Hotte was credited with it ahead of Liam King, who Heath was pleased to see back in action.

“I think Nathan’s got ahead of him there. He doesn’t score many Nathan so he’ll be claiming that,” Heath said.

“But it was good to see Liam back on the pitch. He’s played no football so it was a big ask for him when he’s had one training session.

“We knew he was only going to have 50-60 minutes but it was nice to see him out there.

“He’ll just get fitter and stronger and hopefully you’ll see what Liam’s all about.”

Matty Kosylo was asbsent from the game on Saturday, and Heath was unsure if he would return at Salford on Tuesday.

He added: “He picked up a problem against Harrogate and he couldn’t train Thursday, it was a bit sore still.

“We didn’t want to risk him today. He’s got a little tweak on his knee but hopefully he may be fit for Tuesday. If not, he’ll definitely be fit for Saturday.”
