"There's loads of positives to take out of it," says Millington after battling defeat at Wrexham

Town boss Chris Millington said it was a tough result to take after his side produced a valiant display in their 3-1 defeat at Wrexham.

Mani Dierseruvwe's penalty gave Halifax a 1-0 half-time lead but second-half goals from Ben Tozer, Jordan Davies and Aaron Hayden saw the hosts take all three points.

When asked if it was a tough result to take, Millington said: "Mainly because we led for a decent period of the game and didn't see it out.

"The commitment was fantastic, the effort and application, nobody comes off with anything but praise in that sense.

"There's maybe a sense that we've dropped off once we scored.

"We were more than a match for them prior to scoring the goal, I'd say we were very good for the rest of the first-half in terms of our organisation and structure

"But we didn't look after the ball well enough and have enough spells of possession after we scored."

Millington added: "We've had a real structure and organisation about us for a large portion of the game but we've done anywhere near enough when we've had the ball, after we scored.

"We need to look at that and figure out how we get better at that because we've got a tough run of games coming up that we're going to have to, yes defend well and be organised and structured in, but we also want to look after the ball well and have significant periods of possession, and we weren't that team today."

The Town boss praised his side for their resilience in the face of strong Wrexham pressure.

"We've more than matched a very strong team, certainly before the goal and for most of the first-half," he said.

"In the second-half we've been very resilient, the lads have worked exceptionally hard, everybody's contributed, Sam Johnson's made a couple of excellent saves and everybody else has put their bodies on the line when required.

"So there's loads of positives to take out of it, but it maybe doesn't quite feel like that at the moment, given it's a 3-1 defeat."

On whether his side could have done better for any of Wrexham's goals, Millington said: "You can always do better, there's never a goal scored that you can't do more to stop.

"So yeah, without a doubt."

Despite the result, Millington said the performance represented another step in the right direction.

"We're continuing to build and if you look at the positives in the game, there's definitely signs of progression," he said.

"The result makes it feel different from that, but looking at it in terms of the general performance, more energy than we've had in the early part of the season, a lot more organisation, you see lads fighting for each other, putting their bodies on the line, going to war to win headers, getting round on the cover when somebody makes a mistake, there's a team-mate there to try and make up for it.

"We've definitely not gone backwards tonight but we've been beaten and we don't like that."
