The Halifax AFL Premier Division runners-up to Ryburn United made a dream start, going ahead inside two minutes when Ben Watkins was allowed time and space to rifle home.

Stump were on the front foot with Tom Robinson, Sam Hiley and Kai Hadley at the heart of the early Stump pressure.

Sowerby slowly started to settle and press themselves. Corey Henderson’s darting runs down the left were a cause of concern for Stump.

Oliver Smith, Dan Crossland and Daniel Boyd were starting to stamp their authority on the midfield as the first half went on and the game became more even.

Stump started the second half strongly with man of the match Robinson in superb form. Sowerby dug in with player manager Garry Boyd and Dan Taylor leading by example at the back.

Sowerby were getting chances and a dipping volley from Jake Allott produced a brilliant save from Garry Allchin in the Stump goal.

Just as Sowerby were showing signs of getting level, Robinson created space and Hadley got into the box to double Stump’s lead.

Hadley added a third in the closing minutes to finish off Sowerby and seal victory.
